The greater meaning. I think that the mixed people were in there to show that there were people perhaps worse than the blacks. Racism is one of To Kill a Mockingbird's main themes and can be seen throughout the book. you used good examples to show this. i agree with you that the author put "mixed people" in to her story to show that we are all equal. i also believe that it was important to include a "mixed community" too show the prejudice culture in the south.
